Participating policies are policies that may pay you dividends, meaning you have a chance to participate in the company’s earnings. Life insurance dividends are refunds of parts of your premium. When a company collects more in premiums than it needs to pay death claims and maintain the insurance pool, the company may pay dividends at the end of that year. Always check to determine if and when dividends would be paid on your policy. Not all participating policies have guaranteed dividends, so payment of dividends is not guaranteed.

When you die, the insurance company will pay the death benefit, regardless of the cash value of the policy that existed the moment before you died. Your beneficiaries can claim no more than the stated death benefit. In addition, any loans you have not repaid (plus interest) will be subtracted from the death benefit.

No. Term life insurance policies do not have a cash value or any amount that you may borrow against.

Some term life insurance policies can be described as “convertible.” The conversion provision allows the owner of the term life policy to convert to a permanent life insurance policy during a specified period of time without having to show that the insured is in good health. The conversion period is shorter than the duration of the term insurance coverage.

Permanent life insurance is intended to provide protection for your entire life. Generally, the premiums for permanent life insurance are initially higher when compared to the same amount of term insurance. A portion of this policy is used to build up cash value in the policy. The cash value can be used in a number of different ways, including allowing you to take out a loan against the cash value.

Please note that you must list a reason for any submitted name change. If the reason is marriage or divorce, no legal documentation is required. If due to any other reason, legal documentation must be included with the request.

Due to federal policy laws, we must speak with the policy’s listed owner. If you are the owner, you may make changes and obtain information.

Most life insurance claims can be processed upon receipt of a claimant’s statement completed by the named beneficiary(s) and a certified death certificate for the insured. If available, the original insurance contract(s) should also be returned. Only one death certificate is required regardless of the number of policies or certificates.
